Zizou is coming home! French legend Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to take charge of Les Bleus until 2030.
Well, it looks like it's finally happening.
French football icon Zinedine Zidane has reportedly signed a deal to become the next head coach of the French national team, with a contract that will keep him in charge until June 2030.
The gist was dropped by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday that the former Real Madrid boss will be officially unveiled in the coming days.
Romano wrote: “Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days — back to work with France.”
And yes, he finished it off with his trademark “Here we go, confirmed.”
If the reports are true, Zidane’s first big tests will be the 2027 UEFA Nations League, Euro 2028, and of course, the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The 54-year-old has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid back in 2021 after his second spell at the Bernabeu. And what a spell it was — three Champions League titles on the bounce between 2016 and 2018, plus two La Liga titles and a cabinet full of other silverware.
A World Cup winner with France in ’98, Zidane has long been tipped as the natural successor to Didier Deschamps, who has led Les Bleus since 2012. Deschamps is widely expected to step down after the 2026 World Cup.
That said, as at the time of filing this report, the French Football Federation is yet to release an official statement.
