Kyiv, brace yourselves. President Volodymyr Zelensky says Moscow is lining up another huge bombardment, and this time the warning is blunt: protect your lives.
According to a report published by cbinewstv, Zelensky went public on Friday night with intelligence that Russia is preparing what he called a “massive new strike” across Ukraine.
It comes just days after Kyiv took one of its worst poundings since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. Last weekend's barrage was enormous, and Moscow is now openly telling foreign diplomats to get out of the capital.
Why the escalation? Russia claims it is retaliation for a Ukrainian strike on a dormitory and a vocational college in occupied Luhansk, which it says killed 21 people. Kyiv denies carrying it out.
Zelensky's message on social media was short and direct:
“We have intelligence information about Russia preparing a new massive strike. Please pay attention to air alerts, protect your lives. Our services are working efficiently and are prepared; the Air Force and other defenders of our skies will be on duty 24/7, as always.”
The president is also turning up the pressure on allies. He has repeated his call for more Patriot air defence systems, the only kit that reliably knocks out Russian ballistic missiles, and confirmed he wrote to US President Donald Trump and the US Congress earlier this week asking them to finance the deliveries.
It is not one-way traffic. Ukraine has stepped up its own long-range strikes on occupied territory and inside Russia, hitting energy and military sites in response to the nightly drone and missile waves.
Meanwhile, the diplomatic track looks stuck. US-mediated talks to end the war have effectively stalled, with Washington's focus and resources pulled towards the new war in the Middle East.
For now, the advice from Kyiv is simple: listen for the sirens, take shelter, and expect the air defence teams to be working through the night.
