Deputy Governor reveals Zamfara Governor, cabinet set to dump PDP, join APC...
The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, is reportedly set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
CBI News reports that the announcement was made on Monday by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, in a video that has since circulated widely online.
In the viral video, the deputy governor was seen celebrating with members of the state executive council while praising the APC following the decision to join the ruling party.
The development signals a major political shift in the North-West state, which has been under the control of the PDP since Lawal assumed office.
Following the announcement, the PDP flag was reportedly removed from the Zamfara State Government House in the presence of the deputy governor and members of the governor’s cabinet.
The move has further fuelled speculation that the governor and key officials of his administration have formally aligned with the APC.
Former presidential aide and APC chieftain Bashir Ahmad also confirmed the development in a post on the social media platform X.
He wrote: “Latest reports from Zamfara indicate that Governor Dauda Lawal, along with members of his cabinet, has defected from the PDP to the APC.”
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Lawal had yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason behind the reported defection.
However, the development comes amid ongoing legal and political disputes within the PDP, particularly over the party’s national leadership structure.
The opposition party has recently been embroiled in several court cases linked to its disputed national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025, a crisis that continues to deepen divisions within the party.
