YouTube is in negotiations with TelevisaUnivision to prevent its content from being removed from YouTube TV's basic bundle.
YouTube is currently in talks with TelevisaUnivision to maintain access to the Mexican-American media company's content on its YouTube TV service. The negotiations are taking place ahead of a September 30 deadline, after which the channels could be removed from the basic bundle.
TelevisaUnivision, a joint venture between Grupo Televisa and U.S. Spanish-language broadcaster Univision, has taken its case public. In a post on X, Univision stated that YouTube TV intends to remove its content from its $83 basic package.
The company accused YouTube of creating what it called an "18% 'Hispanic Tax'" by forcing its subscribers to pay an additional $15 a month to access Univision content as a separate add-on. In a video accompanying the post, Univision urged Google to "do the right thing," adding, "otherwise this looks evil."
In response to the public pressure, Alphabet-owned YouTube confirmed the ongoing negotiations. In its own post on X, the company said, "We have been working with TelevisaUnivision to reach an agreement that allows us to continue carrying their content on YouTube TV."
CBI News reports that this negotiation follows a similar content dispute that YouTube recently settled. Last month, YouTube and Fox reached an agreement to keep Fox News, Fox Sports, and other Fox channels available to YouTube TV subscribers, preventing a potential blackout
