Over N338 million has been allocated for the procurement of rams and cooking condiments, while N60 million is set aside for allowances for Muslim clerics conducting Tafsir sessions.
Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved over N398 million for the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme and Tafsir across the State.
The initiative, to be implemented by the Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation, is designed to support vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan.
As part of efforts to expand the programme’s reach, the number of feeding centres has been increased from 101 last year to 130 centres across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas. Each centre will provide Iftar meals to 100 persons daily throughout the fasting period, benefiting thousands of residents.
A breakdown of the approval shows that more than N338 million has been allocated for the procurement of rams and cooking condiments, while N60 million is set aside for allowances for Muslim clerics conducting Tafsir sessions.
Additionally, 2,300 bags of rice and 400 jerrycans of cooking oil have been approved for distribution to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
Speaking at the flag-off of the distribution exercise in Damaturu, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation, Yusuf Umar, commended the governor for sustaining and expanding the initiative. He said the programme had continued to ease the burden on families and urged committee members to ensure transparency and accountability.
CBI News reports that Umar also warned against diversion or mismanagement of materials, stressing that strict compliance with government guidelines would be enforced.
