Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to confront Donald Trump over Taiwan and escalating US tariffs as both leaders prepare for a crucial summit amid growing global tensions linked to the Iran conflict.
According to cbinews.tv, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to seek major concessions on Taiwan and US trade tariffs during a high-stakes meeting with United States President Donald Trump in China.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in China on Wednesday evening for a three-day state visit, marking the first trip by a sitting US president to the Asian giant since 2017, during the early days of his first term in office.
While Trump is known for his unpredictable style of leadership and policymaking, Xi is widely viewed as more strategic and consistent, especially regarding Beijing’s core national interests tied to security and territorial sovereignty.
At the center of the discussions is Taiwan — a self-governed island that Beijing considers part of its territory under the “One China” policy.
Although the United States officially severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan decades ago, Washington continues to support the island’s defence through the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979.
Under the agreement, the US has supplied Taiwan with billions of dollars in military equipment and strengthened cooperation through intelligence sharing and military training — actions China has repeatedly condemned as interference in its internal affairs.
Ahead of the summit, China’s embassy in Washington reiterated its position, warning that Taiwan remains one of Beijing’s “four red lines” that must not be challenged during discussions with the US administration.
The summit comes amid rising geopolitical tensions globally, with analysts closely watching whether the two powers can ease trade disputes and avoid further escalation over Taiwan.
