Heads up if you’re flying to the World Cup from Africa next month — the three host nations are tightening up. And not everyone’s happy about it.
So, here’s the latest from cbinews.tv: the US, Canada and Mexico — all hosting the World Cup next month — are now planning to get on the same page when it comes to Ebola travel rules.
If you’re travelling to the tournament from DR Congo or other African countries dealing with the Ebola outbreak, expect extra checks. Washington and Ottawa have already put limits on anyone who’s been in Congo, Uganda or South Sudan recently. Mexico’s stepped things up too, with tougher screening at airports and asking arrivals from the DRC to quarantine.
But the move isn’t going down well everywhere. Jean Kaseya, head of Africa Centres for Disease Control, told Health Policy Watch the restrictions are “unacceptable”. He reckons they’ll do real damage to the economies of the countries being targeted.
Kaseya didn’t stop there either. He’s also calling out countries that promised cash to help tackle the outbreak but haven’t coughed up yet. His message? Pay up — or he’ll start naming names.
