Africa is making its mark on the world stage! Three nations have already booked their places in the Round of 32, while several others are still fighting to keep the continent's World Cup dream alive.
Africa has plenty to celebrate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Morocco, South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire becoming the first teams from the continent to qualify for the Round of 32.
With 10 African nations competing in the newly expanded tournament, the continent is enjoying a strong campaign, and the excitement is far from over.
Morocco secured their knockout place after an impressive 4-2 win over Haiti to finish runners-up in Group C. The Atlas Lions now have a mouth-watering Round of 32 tie against Group F winners, the Netherlands, on 29 June.
South Africa have also written a new chapter in their football history. Bafana Bafana reached the World Cup knockout stage for the very first time after bouncing back from an opening defeat to co-hosts Mexico. A draw against Czechia followed by a crucial victory over Korea Republic saw them finish second in Group A. Their reward? A clash with Canada on 28 June.
Côte d’Ivoire are through as well after finishing second in Group E, thanks to victories over Ecuador and Curaçao. The Elephants will now face the runners-up from Group I on 30 June.
The race isn't over for the rest of Africa's representatives.
Egypt currently top Group G with four points from two matches, while Ghana sit second in Group L behind England on goal difference, with both teams level on four points.
Cabo Verde remain in the hunt in Group H with two points, level with Uruguay but behind on goal difference. Algeria are also still in contention, sitting third in Group J with three points, the same total as Austria.
Meanwhile, Senegal and DR Congo no longer have automatic qualification within reach, but they could still progress depending on the outcome of their final group matches and the tournament's ranking of the best third-placed teams.
Beyond Africa, hosts Mexico have safely progressed alongside the United States, Germany, Argentina, France, Norway, Colombia, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador and Sweden.
Unfortunately, Tunisia's World Cup journey has come to an end. They join Haiti, Türkiye, Jordan, Panama, Qatar, Czechia and Curaçao among the teams already eliminated from the competition.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams, introducing a Round of 32 format. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups, along with the eight best third-placed teams, advance to the knockout rounds, creating even more drama and opportunities for nations across the globe.
