The Minister noted that the project is privately funded and aligns with his ongoing efforts to support media infrastructure and positive messaging in his home state.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday unveiled a new radio station in Rivers State, known as "Majority FM" describing it as a platform to promote peace, unity, and development in the Niger Delta region.
CBI News reports that the station, christened "Rivers Majority FM," was commissioned during a brief ceremony in Port Harcourt. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, said the initiative aims to provide balanced information, amplify government achievements, and counter divisive narratives that have fueled insecurity and discord in the past.
Wike emphasized that the radio station would focus on credible news, cultural content, youth empowerment programs, and community engagement to foster harmony among the diverse ethnic groups in Rivers and beyond.
Dignitaries, including political leaders, traditional rulers, and media stakeholders, attended the launch.
Wike urged residents to tune in and use the platform constructively, pledging that Rivers Majority FM would operate with professionalism and independence while serving the public interest.
