No more Keke or Okada in the heart of Abuja — FCT Minister Wike says it’s a security risk and he’s not budging.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear — tricycles, aka Keke Napep, and commercial motorcycles, aka Okada, will *never* be allowed to operate inside the Abuja city centre.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike didn’t mince words. He said both Keke and Okada have become more than just a nuisance; they’re now a serious security threat to residents of the capital.

His words: “Just this morning I signed the approval because we had a security council meeting where we agreed that they don’t just cause a nuisance, but for the issue of security, it has become a threat.”

He added that he’s already directed security agencies to map out the restricted areas. While he admitted it would be difficult to ban them across the entire FCT, the city centre is definitely off-limits.

And that’s not all. Wike also said his administration will be clearing destitutes and beggars from across the capital.

According to him, providing shelter for them isn’t sustainable. “Each time we take them out, they come in again. Some people say, why not provide where they would be staying? How would we continue to be doing that? It means we are encouraging people to leave Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kaduna; how can you fund that?” he queried.

So yeah, Abuja is getting a major shake-up.
