This year’s Eid-El-Kabir isn’t just about the sallah meat — for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, it’s a call to action on the streets of Abuja.
Hey, here’s the gist of what FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had to say about Eid-El-Kabir, according to cbinews.tv:
Wike’s telling Abuja residents that Eid-El-Kabir should be more than a public holiday. For him, it’s a reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s, AS, “no-nonsense” faith and putting the common good first. And he reckons we can live that out right here in the capital.
So, what does that look like day-to-day? According to Wike, it’s the small sacrifices — being patient, staying disciplined, keeping our streets clean, actually stopping at traffic lights, following building regs, paying taxes when they’re due, and working with security agencies. Basically, if we want a world-class Abuja, we’ve all got to chip in.
“Abuja is what sacrifice for a higher purpose can achieve: peace, order, and shared prosperity,” he said. He described the FCT as Nigeria in miniature — different tribes, languages and faiths all living side by side.
On the development side, Wike announced that some big, inclusive infrastructure projects are set to be unveiled in the coming weeks. They’ll cover both the City Centre and rural communities, and tie into President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to push Abuja onto the global stage. He also gave a shout-out to residents for their patience with all the ongoing construction.
Security? He says the FCTA has all the relevant agencies on high alert to make sure celebrations go smoothly. His message: celebrate with love but stay vigilant and keep things lawful.
Wike doubled down on unity and religious harmony too. He asked everyone to show compassion to the less privileged, ignore divisive gossip, and keep the peace at home, at work, in the markets, and in places of worship. He even quoted Prophet Muhammad, PBUH: “None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”
Now here’s the interesting bit — the 2026 Eid-El-Kabir falls on Children’s Day, May 27, 2026. Wike called it a “noteworthy intersection of faith and future.” He described children as the heartbeat of the FCT and Nigeria’s future, urging parents, teachers and community leaders to use the moment to teach sacrifice, honesty, discipline and patriotism.
“As we commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience, let us also nurture our children with love, safeguard their rights, and invest in quality education, healthcare, and safe environments for them to flourish. A city that protects its children secures its future,” he noted.
He also praised this year’s FCT pilgrims for their orderly conduct during Hajj and asked the entire Muslim community to use this sacred time to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity and prosperity.
