Wike says organisations must apply through Abuja Investments Company Limited to use Eagle Square...
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it was denied access to Eagle Square for its activities.
CBI News reports that speaking on Monday during a project inspection tour in Abuja, Wike described the allegation as unfounded, insisting that no formal request was submitted by the party.
“We do not deny access; these events actually generate revenue for the government.
“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to. If it is the African Democratic Congress, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” he said.
He explained that organisations seeking to use Eagle Square must follow due process by applying through the Abuja Investments Company Limited and pay the required fees.
Wike also clarified that the Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium is not under the control of the FCTA but the National Sports Commission.
“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Limited. When the APC used the venue, and the PDP used the Stadium Velodrome, they complied with the process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he added.
Addressing concerns over reported structural damage at the Kugbo Bus Terminal, Wike said the incident was caused by a windstorm that affected roofing sheets due to the facility’s elevated position, stressing that the main structure remained intact.
He added that repair works had already begun and confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
On infrastructure projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with ongoing work across the Federal Capital Territory, revealing that road projects are expected to be completed by May 15, while streetlight installations will be finalised by May 31.
Wike also inspected the Wassa artisan village project, aimed at relocating mechanics and other informal sector operators to a permanent site.
“Successive administrations have promised this relocation, but we are finally fulfilling that commitment,” he said.
