Federal Capital Territory Administration confirms 1,659 staff appointments following a civil service examination, while authorities investigate possible ghost workers among absent candidates.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointments for 1,659 workers in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The confirmation followed an examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026. A total of 2,281 candidates participated in the exercise.
In a statement released on Sunday by Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, said 2,512 candidates were invited for the examination but only 2,281 appeared.
“2,512 candidates were invited to present themselves for the confirmation examination, but only 2,281 turned up for the examination. A total of 224 officers were absent, fuelling suspicion that they could be ghost workers,” the statement read.
The commission disclosed that some of the workers who participated in the exercise were employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others joined the service shortly before Wike assumed office in August 2023.
Authorities advised candidates to check the status of their confirmation through the commission’s official website.
The statement also revealed that the commission has concluded arrangements to conduct both the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises, following approval by the minister as part of efforts to improve staff welfare and career development within the administration.
CBI News reports that earlier in January, the minister approved the immediate promotion of more than 2,000 FCTA workers after examinations conducted between November 25 and 29, 2025.
