APC says Fubara's reception delay strategic decision tied to Ramadan considerations...
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has clarified why Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is yet to be formally received into the ruling party.
Speaking during an interview on TVC Politics, Yilwatda said the delay was a deliberate and strategic decision influenced by religious and regional considerations, particularly the approaching Ramadan fast.
According to him, the party chose to prioritise activities in the North because of the sensitivity of the Ramadan period to the predominantly Muslim population in the region.
“We decided to clear the North first because Ramadan is coming, and most of the people in the North are Muslims,” Yilwatda said.
“Ramadan is a very sensitive period, so we pleaded that we finish with the northern governors who defected before moving to the South.”
CBI News reports that the APC chairman dismissed suggestions that the delay was due to internal party politics or the alleged influence of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the state’s party structure.
“It has nothing to do with Sim not having control. It is about strategy and understanding the sensitivities of each community,” he stated.
Yilwatda assured party members that Governor Fubara’s official reception into the APC would take place after the party concludes its current engagements in the North.
He added that the APC is intentionally taking steps to respect Nigeria’s cultural and religious diversity as it manages the integration of new members into the party.
