He knew the speech before the President gave it, and he bet on it. Now it has cost him over $172,000.
Former White House teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez has been ordered to pay $172,000, around £127,000, for insider trading on prediction market platform Kalshi, cbinews.tv reports.
Between December 2025 and February 2026, Perez used advance knowledge of Donald Trump speeches to bet on what Trump would say.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission said he breached his duty of trust and confidence.
He must surrender $107,539.02 in profit plus a $65,000 penalty and faces a three year trading ban. His penalty was reduced for exemplary cooperation.
Kalshi spotted unusual bets on its mention markets in March, traced the account to a federal employee and reported it. The White House has since told aides not to bet on prediction markets.
This is a landmark case. With Kalshi now handling billions in volume, it mirrors classic Wall Street insider trading, only with speeches instead of stocks.
