PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki visits ADC leadership in Abuja amid talks of opposition alignment.
A delegation from a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki paid a solidarity visit to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) headed by former Senate President David Mark in Abuja.
CBI News reports that the visit comes amid growing speculation about possible opposition alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections and follows months of internal crises affecting both parties.
The PDP delegation included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as prominent figures such as Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, Babangida Aliyu, Taofeek Arapaja, Inna Ciroma, Ishaya Bamayi, Fred Agbedi and Ini Ememobong.
They were received by key ADC figures including Atiku Abubakar, Kashim Imam, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Tunde Ogbeha, Peter Obi, Liyel Imoke, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi and Bolaji Abdullahi.
In a statement signed by Ememobong, the PDP said the visit was aimed at showing solidarity with the ADC amid what it described as increasing pressure on opposition parties.
“During the visit, the PDP acknowledged the growing and shared threat confronting opposition political parties in the country, noting that similar pressures have been experienced by the PDP in recent times,” the statement said.
“The delegation emphasized the need vigilance in the face of actions capable of undermining democratic principles and political plurality.”
In response, ADC leaders appreciated the visit and warned about what they described as threats to democratic institutions, particularly the weakening of opposition parties.
“The ADC leadership expressed appreciation to the PDP for the visit and reiterated the existential threat facing democracy in Nigeria, particularly through the targeted weakening of major opposition parties,” the statement added.
“Both parties affirmed the need for continued engagement in defence of democratic values and institutions.”
