Sorry, shippers – Tems just shut down any hope of a Nollywood-style romance with her fellow Nigerian stars. And yes, that includes Super Eagles heartthrob Maduka Okoye.
According to cbinews.tv, Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has made it clear she’s not looking to date Nigerian male celebs.
The ‘Love Me Jeje’ star was asked at the BET Awards over the weekend whether she’d shoot her shot at trending Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye if she had the chance. Her response? A firm no – and it’s nothing personal.
Tems explained that because they’re both Nigerian and in the same industry, she simply doesn’t see him that way. “I know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though,” she said. “But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here.”
For Tems, the Nigerian entertainment scene is more like one big family reunion than a dating pool. “We [Nigerian celebrities] friend each other and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers,” she added. So if you were hoping for a Tems x Okoye link-up, it looks like we’ll have to keep that in the group chat.
