Spurs record 10th straight victory in win over Golden State...
Victor Wembanyama powered the San Antonio Spurs to a 10th straight victory on Wednesday, delivering his second consecutive 41-point performance in a 127-113 win over the Golden State Warriors.
Two days after recording the fastest double-double in NBA history, Wembanyama added 18 rebounds in a dominant wire-to-wire display as San Antonio underlined their title credentials.
The Spurs have surged into contention in the second half of the season, winning 26 of their last 28 games. They sit second in the Western Conference, two wins behind the Oklahoma City Thunder, with six regular-season games remaining in the race for the top seed.
Both teams are seen as leading contenders for this year’s NBA title ahead of the playoffs, which begin in mid-April. The Thunder are the defending champions, while the Spurs are chasing a first playoff appearance since 2019.
Wembanyama dismissed concerns over the team’s lack of experience.
“We don’t have experience, right? Screw it,” he told ESPN. “We’re still going to play 100per centt to try to win this championship.”
San Antonio set the tone early in San Francisco, taking a 70-49 halftime lead behind Wembanyama’s 27 points and 13 rebounds in the opening half.
The Warriors, missing key players including Stephen Curry, were unable to recover, though Curry was seen on the court before the game, raising hopes of a return as Golden State eyes a play-in route to the postseason.
In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics strengthened their hold on second place with a 147-129 win over the Miami Heat.
Jaylen Brown scored 43 points while Jayson Tatum recorded a triple-double with 25 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists, as Boston posted 53 points in the first quarter — the joint second-highest in NBA history.
The Heat dropped to 10th place but remains within reach of an automatic playoff spot in a tightly contested Eastern race.
Elsewhere, the Toronto Raptors fell 123-115 to the Sacramento Kings, allowing the Philadelphia 76ers to move ahead after a 153-131 victory over the Washington Wizards, with Paul George scoring 39 points.
