'Weapons Decide who Survives' - Zelensky Blasts U.N.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accuse United Nations of being powerless to halt conflicts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a blistering critique of the United Nations on Wednesday.

He accused the world body of failing to stop wars and describing it as a powerless institution as his country enters its fourth year of resisting Russia’s invasion.

CBI News reports that speaking before world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Zelensky said the organization has become little more than a stage for speeches while conflicts rage unchecked.

“Nations can speak about their pain from stages like this, but even during bloodshed, there isn’t a single international institution that can truly stop it,” he declared.

“That’s how weak these institutions have become. And because international institutions are too weak, this madness continues... Weapons decide who survives.”

The Ukrainian leader warned that a new global arms race is shaping international relations, with force rather than diplomacy dictating outcomes.

His remarks highlighted the structural paralysis of the U.N., where Russia’s veto power in the Security Council has repeatedly blocked binding resolutions, sanctions, and any authorization of military action against Moscow.

Zelensky’s fiery address came less than 24 hours after he scored a key diplomatic victory during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a surprising shift, Trump posted on Truth Social that he now supports Ukraine’s bid to retake all territory occupied by Russia, a departure from his earlier stance suggesting Kyiv might have to cede land to achieve peace.

In his own U.N. speech, Trump hinted at the possibility of increased economic pressure on Russia, but signaled that any U.S. action would depend on Europe’s willingness to join.

CBI News understands that the American president acknowledged that such a coordinated effort faces significant political and bureaucratic hurdles across the continent.
