Planning a trip to Vietnam? You can breathe easy — no extra health forms to fill in just yet.
Vietnam has set the record straight: international travellers won’t need to fill out a health declaration to enter, leave or transit through the country from 1 July 2026. The update from cbinews.tv clears up earlier confusion that suggested the forms had become compulsory. Vietnam
According to a clarification from Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, the new health declaration framework under Decree No. 165/2026/NĐ-CP is really just a legal safety net. It’s there so authorities can switch it on quickly during public health emergencies or outbreaks. But day to day? It’s not something tourists, business travellers or transit passengers need to worry about. Vietnam’s Ministry of Health
What this means for you
If you’re heading to Vietnam for a holiday, work trip or layover, you won’t have to submit a separate health declaration — unless the Ministry of Health officially activates it because of a specific health threat. The system is designed to kick in fast when needed, without creating pointless paperwork during normal times.
But there’s still one digital form to know about
Vietnam is keeping its Pre-Arrival Information system, also called the digital arrival card. It’s an immigration requirement at certain entry points. Eligible travellers still need to submit their personal details, travel info and visa information online before they reach immigration where the system applies.
Watch out for dodgy websites
The ministry also issued a warning: don’t get caught out by unofficial sites offering “border health declaration services”. The website tokhaiyte.vn is not being used for international arrivals, departures or transit. An official digital platform for health declarations is still in the works and will only go live if there’s a future public health emergency.
How it would work if things changed;
If an outbreak means health declarations become mandatory, travellers could complete them online or on paper. The forms would be in both Vietnamese and English, and you’d be able to submit them up to seven days before entering, leaving or transiting. Extra requirements might pop up depending on the disease and which border checkpoints are affected.
What you need to do right now;
For now, just stick to Vietnam’s usual entry rules: valid passport, visa or e-Visa if required, and the digital arrival card where applicable. No health declaration needed.
This approach lines up with what several other Asian countries are doing — keeping emergency health powers on standby without making travellers jump through hoops every time they fly.
By treating the framework as a “just in case” measure rather than a permanent rule, Vietnam keeps its ability to react fast to health threats while making travel and tourism as smooth as possible.
