Victor Boniface returns to training, boosting Werder Bremen’s hopes of avoiding relegation...
Victor Boniface has returned to training, raising hopes he could feature in Werder Bremen’s bid to avoid relegation this season.
CBI News reports that Boniface has been sidelined since December after a knee injury that required surgery.
Initially ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, his recovery has accelerated in recent weeks.
“First of all, I’m happy to have met him. We had a long talk. He indicated that he wants to help us in our fight to stay in the league,” said head coach Daniel Thioune.
Thioune added, “For me, that offers another option, but not for this weekend. In the coming weeks, we’re playing against teams of similar strength, and if we can give Victor a few minutes of playing time, that could be a big help and a real asset for us.”
Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer and has recorded two assists in 11 league appearances.
His return drew praise from fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who commented on social media: “GOD is the greatest; star boy is back!” after Boniface shared a training photo captioned “God blessing.”
Osimhen himself is nearing a comeback following an arm injury sustained in Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool.
The 27-year-old underwent surgery in March and has resumed gym work under physiotherapists.
He is expected to return before the end of April as Galatasaray prepares for a crucial league clash against Trabzonspor.
