The United States Africa Command has released footage from the military operation that reportedly eliminated top ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki during a joint mission with Nigerian forces in the North-East.
According to cbinews.tv, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has released footage of the military operation that led to the reported killing of senior ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki in northeastern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Saturday, AFRICOM said the operation was carried out under the direction of the President of the United States and the U.S. Secretary of War, in coordination with the Government of Nigeria and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The command disclosed that initial assessments showed that multiple terrorists were killed during the operation, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was described as ISIS’ director of global operations.
According to AFRICOM, the strike targeted a major ISIS presence in northeastern Nigeria as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations across the Lake Chad Basin region.
“At the direction of the President of the United States and the Secretary of War, and in coordination with the Government of Nigeria, U.S. Africa Command conducted an operation against ISIS in Northeastern Nigeria on May 16, 2026,” the statement read.
The command added that no American service member was injured during the operation.
“As President Trump shared last night, AFRICOM in coordination with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, bravely and valiantly conducted a successful mission that resulted in the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, and multiple other ISIS leaders,” said U.S. Air Force General Dagvin Anderson, commander of U.S. Africa Command.
He described the operation as another sign of the growing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism.
“This operation underscores the exceptional value of the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and was made possible through the cooperation and coordination of our forces in recent months,” Anderson stated.
“Make no mistake, our two nations will relentlessly pursue and neutralize terrorist threats and are committed to protecting our people and interests,” he added.
AFRICOM also alleged that Al-Minuki played a major role within the ISIS global network, providing strategic direction on media operations, terrorist financing, weapons production, explosives, and drone manufacturing.
The commander was further described as one of the world’s most active terrorists, with a long history of involvement in attack planning and hostage-taking operations.
The release of the footage has continued to spark reactions online as discussions grow around the scale of international cooperation in counterterrorism operations across the Lake Chad region and the wider Sahel.
