US presents 15-point proposal to Iran outlining conditions to resolve ongoing tensions...
Details have emerged of a 15-point proposal by the United States aimed at resolving the ongoing tensions with Iran.
According to Reuters, the plan has already been communicated to Iran.
The New York Times also reported, citing two officials, that the proposal was delivered through Pakistan.
However, The Guardian noted that it remains unclear how widely the proposal has been circulated among Iranian officials or whether Tehran is willing to use it as a basis for negotiations.
As outlined by Channel 12, the key elements of the proposal include:
- Iran must dismantle its nuclear capabilities.
- Iran must commit to not pursuing additional nuclear weapons.
- Iran will cease further enrichment of nuclear material.
- All enriched materials are to be handed over under a schedule agreed by the US, Israel and Iran.
- Nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow are to be decommissioned.
- The International Atomic Energy Agency will gain full access to Iran’s nuclear programme.
- Iran will abandon its proxy strategy in the region.
- Iran will stop funding and arming regional proxy groups.
- The Strait of Hormuz will remain open as a free and unobstructed maritime route.
- Iran will limit the number and range of its missiles.
- Any future missile use must be strictly for self-defence.
- All sanctions imposed on Iran will be lifted.
- Iran will receive support to develop a civilian nuclear project in Bushehr.
- The snapback sanctions mechanism against Iran will be removed.
- The US and Israel will back Iran in expanding its civilian nuclear energy programme in Bushehr for electricity generation.
