Drama on the diplomatic front! A Washington lobbying firm says it will do everything in its power to stop President Bola Tinubu from meeting Donald Trump at the UN next month.

Well, this is getting interesting.

According to cbinews.tv, a United States-based lobbying outfit, Von Batten-Montague-York L.C., has kicked against any proposed meeting between President Bola Tinubu and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.

The Washington-based firm made its position known in a post on X, reacting to comments made by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.

You will recall that Ambassador Ibrahim had, during a television interview a few weeks ago, hinted that President Tinubu was expected to hold talks with President Trump next month in New York.

But the lobbyists are not having it.

In its statement on X, the firm revealed it has already forwarded the video of Ibrahim’s remarks to senior officials in the Trump administration.

And they are not stopping there. The firm said it will also share the material with members of the United States Congress and officials at the State Department in the coming days.

Why? The firm argues that any meeting between both leaders could be interpreted by some Nigerians as an endorsement of President Tinubu, despite longstanding controversies surrounding historical court records in the US.

“We have shared the video with senior members of President Donald Trump Administration. In the coming days, we will also share it with Members of Congress and the State Department. President Tinubu and his associates are attempting to convince Nigerians and the world that President Trump condones the drug trafficking allegations against Tinubu,” the firm said.
