It is pure chaos at FIFA and now UK PM has waded straight in.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has branded Gianni Infantino the wrong man to lead FIFA after the plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors completely unravelled, cbinews.tv reports.

And honestly, it is not looking good for Infantino.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Burnham, who was critical of the proposal from day one, did not hold back. He said: This was an outrageous suggestion. The idea that it could even be brought forward shows that, in my view, he is the wrong man to lead the organisation.

His comments came just hours after the Asian Football Confederation said it stands in solidarity with counterparts in Europe and North, Central America and the Caribbean in opposing the move.

In a strongly worded statement, the AFC said Infantino plan could not realistically achieve the necessary broad consensus and unity required to move forward.

They added: The FIFA World Cup is the pinnacle of global football and derives its strength from the participation of all Confederations and the worlds leading football nations. Any proposal that risks undermining the unity and universal character of the competition must be reconsidered.

Then came the big resignation. Carlos Cordeiro, Infantinos own senior adviser on global strategy and governance, quit on the spot, calling the proposal a bad deal for football that would mortgage footballs future.

The maths is now brutal for Infantino. He said he would need a straight majority, 106 of FIFAs 211 members, to push it through.

But with UEFA on 55 votes, Concacaf on 35 votes and now Asia on 46 votes all against, that is 136 nations opposed if members back their confederations. Game over.

South Americas governing body CONMEBOL is yet to publicly state its position, while the Confederation of African Football and the Oceania Football Confederation are expected to discuss the proposal in August.
