UK Court Backs Government on Asylum Seeker Hotel

UK court rules asylum seekers can stay in an Essex hotel despite protests, fuelling political tensions as immigration dominates Britain’s agenda.

The British government has secured a court victory allowing asylum seekers to remain in a hotel in Epping, Essex, despite local protests and opposition following allegations of sexual assault by one resident.

The Court of Appeal overturned a previous High Court injunction that had blocked the use of the Bell Hotel to house asylum seekers on planning grounds. The decision prevents the immediate eviction of dozens of migrants but risks fuelling public anger and political backlash.

CBI News reports that Immigration has become Britain’s most divisive political issue, surpassing economic concerns as record numbers of asylum seekers and Channel crossings intensify pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

More than 28,000 migrants have arrived in small boats so far this year. Critics argue that housing asylum seekers in hotels puts communities at risk, while the government insists the ruling provides stability and avoids the disruption of mass evictions. The case highlights the growing political and social strains over Britain’s handling of asylum policy.
