Uganda Quarantines Over 100 People as WHO Warns of Growing Ebola Threat in Central Africa

Health authorities in Uganda have placed more than 100 people under quarantine as fears grow over a fresh Ebola outbreak, while the World Health Organization raises concerns about the rapid spread of the deadly virus in neighbouring Congo.
Ugandan health authorities have quarantined more than 100 people as efforts intensify to contain a rare Ebola outbreak linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, cbinews.tv reports.
According to officials, those affected are being closely monitored at an undisclosed location while medical experts observe them for possible symptoms of infection.
Despite growing concerns, Ugandan authorities insist the situation is under control and say the country’s experience in handling previous health crises has helped strengthen its emergency response system.
Alan Kasujja, Executive Director of the Uganda Media Center and Communications Focal Person for the Ebola Task Force, said experienced health professionals are already managing the situation.
“All you need to know at this point is that over 100 people have been identified and they are being quarantined, and they are being treated by very experienced medical people,” Kasujja said.
He also reminded the public that Uganda had successfully dealt with previous outbreaks including Ebola, COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, while urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant and compliant with health guidelines.
The development comes amid rising fears across Central and East Africa following a fresh warning from the World Health Organization over the worsening Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Congolese officials, at least 131 people have died while more than 500 suspected cases have already been recorded, sparking concerns that the virus could spread further across the region if not swiftly contained.
The WHO has now raised alarm over what it described as the “scale and speed” of the outbreak, as health agencies race to prevent a wider regional health emergency.
