One minute she was coming to Lagos, the next — poof — the date has vanished. And Nigerians definitely noticed.
So, here’s what’s happened.
South African pop darling Tyla has quietly taken Lagos off her upcoming 2026 A*POP World Tour, just days after her planned Nigeria stop sparked a serious firestorm online.
If you missed it, the Lagos date was originally part of her huge global rollout — Europe, North America, South Africa, all still intact. But if you check the updated itinerary now? Lagos is no longer on the list.
And no, neither Tyla nor her team has said a word about why. No statement, no explanation.

The Lagos announcement had landed right in the middle of renewed outrage over disturbing reports of xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa. Naturally, social media did what social media does best — it erupted.
Plenty of Nigerians weren’t having it, with many calling for a full boycott of the show. The argument was pretty blunt: why should South African stars continue to get massive love and sold-out shows in Nigeria while Nigerians are allegedly being targeted over there?
The whole debate then pulled in another name — Ayra Starr. The conversation reignited after the Nigerian star’s own South Africa shows were cancelled over visa issues involving her team. For many, that felt like a double standard.
It got so big that even lawmakers weighed in. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, reacting to Ayra Starr’s visa situation, urged the Nigerian authorities to take a more reciprocal, firm stance, saying it’s about protecting Nigeria’s dignity.
Then you had two very different takes from activists. VeryDarkMan, real name Martins Otse, came out strongly against Tyla’s Lagos concert and told Nigerians to snub it until xenophobia is properly addressed. On the flip side, Omoyele Sowore argued it’s unfair to hold Tyla personally responsible for the actions of others.
For now, the Lagos date is off, the tour moves on, and the internet is still very much divided.
