The battle for French holidaymakers is on, and this summer North Africa is winning.

Tunisia has held onto its crown as the leading Maghreb destination for French travellers this summer, ranking ahead of Morocco in July 2026 bookings, despite a slight dip, as reported by cbinews.tv.

According to the latest French Holiday Observatory published by Les Entreprises du Voyage, Tunisia ranked fourth among the most booked international destinations for French holidaymakers departing in July 2026, while Morocco followed closely in sixth place.

Bookings to Tunisia fell by 3.2 percent compared with July 2025, but the country still retained its position as the most popular Maghreb destination for the French market.

Morocco, however, is gaining serious momentum.

As reported by cbinews.tv, Morocco recorded the strongest performance between the two, with bookings rising by 6.4 percent year on year.

The surge reflects growing demand for its diverse tourism offerings, led by hotspots like Marrakech and Agadir, while Chefchaouen, the Atlas Mountains and the Merzouga desert are also pulling in more visitors.

It comes down to different tourism strengths.

Tunisia continues to win over holidaymakers with its Mediterranean beaches and well-established seaside resorts, including Hammamet, Djerba, Monastir and Mahdia. Cultural gems such as the medina of Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said also remain major draws.

Morocco meanwhile is benefiting from demand for a broader mix, city breaks, mountain escapes, coastal holidays and desert experiences all in one trip.

Despite the contrasting trends, both countries remain firm favourites for French travellers.

Industry figures put their enduring appeal down to proximity to France, competitive prices, warm summer weather and tourism offerings that cater to a wide range of budgets and travel preferences.
