Trump just took credit for stopping the “slaughter” of Christians in Nigeria. Here’s what he said — and why it’s making waves.
According to cbinews.tv, US President Donald Trump has claimed that American military action in Nigeria put a serious dent in attacks on Christian communities there.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, 26 June 2026, Trump said his administration went after terrorists targeting Christians and “largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations” in the country.
“I’m saving Christians throughout the world,” Trump told reporters, as reported by *cbinews.tv*. He said the US “recently struck Nigeria” and took out the top brass of the group responsible. “We knocked out their leader, we knocked out their second leader, and their third leader,” he added — though he didn’t name the group or give specifics on the operation.
Trump described the targets as extremists hell-bent on shutting down churches and killing worshippers. “They will close your churches… they will kill your people. That’s what they’re about. They want to end religion,” he said, framing the strikes as part of a wider push to protect religious freedom globally.
Back in May, cbinews.tv notes, Trump had announced that a senior ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, was killed in a joint operation between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and US forces. More recently, at least 20 suspected ISIS/ISWAP fighters were reportedly killed in coordinated airstrikes carried out by the Nigerian military with support from US Africa Command in Borno State.
