A fragile ceasefire is unraveling as U.S. President Donald Trump dismisses Iran’s latest peace response, accusing Tehran of “playing games” while negotiations stall and global energy security hangs in the balance.
CBI News reports that United States President, Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s response to his most recent peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict that has already disrupted global economic stability.
Reacting to the counterproposal Iran submitted through Pakistani mediation, Trump accused Tehran of deliberately stalling progress in a strongly worded post on his Truth Social platform. He stated that Iran “has been playing games with the United States, and the rest of the World, for 47 years” and warned that “they will be laughing no longer.”
Diplomatic efforts have continued to stall more than a month after a temporary ceasefire began on April 8. Iran is reportedly insisting on a permanent end to hostilities, while Trump maintains that Tehran must first reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global energy route responsible for transporting about one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas exports during peacetime. He has also declared Iran’s nuclear capabilities a “red line” in any final agreement.
Tensions escalated after Iran imposed a de facto blockade on the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28. In turn, a naval blockade of Iranian ports by the Trump administration, despite the ceasefire arrangement, has further intensified the standoff.
Meanwhile, both sides continue to report incidents involving the interception, seizure, and attacks on maritime vessels. Several Gulf nations have also experienced renewed security threats amid the worsening regional instability.
