A judge just told the White House, you can’t ban the press because you don’t like their coverage.

In a major pushback against Donald Trump’s war on the media, a federal judge has ordered the White House to immediately let CNN, MS NOW and Politico back in.

As reported by cbinews.tv, US District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was actually appointed by Trump himself, issued a 14-day temporary restraining order on Thursday, ruling the ban likely violated due process.

The context? Last Friday, Trump barred reporters from the three outlets, branding their work “fake news” and “fiction and lies.” It’s part of a long-running pattern; he’s repeatedly called the press the “enemy of the people” since his first campaign.

The human angle here is simple: these are working reporters who lost their hard passes overnight, unable to do their jobs. CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued together, arguing a clear First Amendment breach.

Why it matters: The White House argued access is a “privilege, not a right.” The court disagreed, saying you can’t strip a constitutionally protected interest without notice and a chance to be heard.

This isn’t new. In 2018, the same judge ordered Jim Acosta’s CNN pass restored for the same reason.

Passes must be returned now; the order can’t be immediately appealed, and a full hearing on a longer injunction is expected within two weeks.
