Trump defends sharing controversial video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys...
United States President Donald Trump has insisted that he made no mistake by sharing a video that depicted former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, as monkeys, saying he does not owe anyone an apology.
CBI News recalls that the video was posted on Trump’s official Truth Social account before it was later taken down, sparking widespread outrage and accusations of racism.
Speaking late Friday to reporters travelling with him aboard Air Force One, Trump maintained that the post was not an error, even though he admitted he did not watch the entire clip before it was shared.
“I didn’t make a mistake,” Trump said.
“I didn’t see the whole thing. I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud in the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is."
“Then I gave it to the people. Generally, they look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn’t,” he added.
When pressed on whether he condemned the content of the video, Trump responded, “Of course I do.”
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from political figures and commentators.
California Governor Gavin Newsom reacted on X, describing the post as unacceptable.
“Disgusting behaviour by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now,” Newsom wrote.
Political commentator Harry Sisson also condemned the video, calling it racist and unworthy of the presidency.
“Trump posted a video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. Incredibly racist and disgusting. Beneath the office of the presidency, like everything he does. Every American must condemn this,” Sisson stated.
