U.S. President Donald Trump says a top ISIS commander described as “the most active terrorist in the world” has been killed in a coordinated military operation involving U.S. and Nigerian forces.
According to cbinews.tv, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior Islamic State leader, during a joint military operation carried out by U.S. and Nigerian forces.
Trump made the announcement Friday evening on his Truth Social platform, describing the operation as “meticulously planned and very complex.” He claimed al-Minuki was the global second-in-command of ISIS and one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists.
“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans,” Trump stated, adding that the elimination of the terror leader significantly weakens ISIS operations globally.
Al-Minuki, a Nigerian national, was identified by the U.S. State Department in 2023 as a key ISIS figure operating within Africa’s Sahel region. He reportedly held a senior position in the terrorist group’s General Directorate of Provinces, an arm responsible for coordinating operations and funding across different regions.
The U.S. Treasury Department had earlier designated him a global terrorist, imposing sanctions over his alleged involvement in extremist activities.
Although ISIS lost much of its territory in Iraq and Syria after major military offensives beginning in 2017, the group and its affiliates have continued to carry out attacks across parts of Africa and the Middle East.
ISIS-linked factions remain active in Nigeria and across the Sahel region, particularly in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, where insurgent violence has persisted in recent months.
According to reports monitored by cbinews.tv, recent attacks linked to ISIS affiliates include assaults on military installations in Nigeria and clashes with rival extremist groups.
Trump also referenced previous strikes against ISIS camps in Nigeria, including military actions reportedly carried out during the Christmas period last year.
The development comes amid continued international concern over insecurity in northern Nigeria and the wider Sahel region, where both Muslim and Christian communities have been affected by extremist violence.
