A daring military operation deep inside the Mandara Mountains has led to the rescue of 360 abductees held by Boko Haram insurgents, marking one of the most significant hostage recovery missions in recent years.
In a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria's North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 360 abductees from a Boko Haram stronghold hidden deep within the rugged Mandara Mountains of southern Borno State.
According to information obtained by CbiNewstv, the rescued victims were mostly women and children who had been abducted from communities around the Ngoshe axis and held captive by terrorists for an extended period.
Military authorities described the operation as one of the most successful hostage rescue missions in recent times. The mission was reportedly carried out by Special Forces and troops of Sector One following weeks of detailed intelligence gathering, surveillance and covert reconnaissance.
For years, the Mandara Mountains have served as a difficult-to-access sanctuary for insurgents operating along Nigeria's border communities. However, security forces were able to identify the exact location of the captives through a combination of Human Intelligence, Signals Intelligence and aerial surveillance.
Under the cover of darkness, troops launched a coordinated assault on the heavily fortified terrorist enclave, advancing from multiple directions to block escape routes and catch the insurgents off guard.
Military sources say the operation unfolded with remarkable speed and precision. While several insurgents reportedly fled into nearby mountains, others surrendered as troops tightened their grip on the hideout.
The successful mission led to the rescue of 360 abductees, who were immediately evacuated to safety.
Sadly, authorities confirmed that two infants lost their lives due to exhaustion and the harsh conditions they endured during their prolonged captivity.
The rescued victims have since been moved to secure facilities, where they are receiving medical treatment, counselling and humanitarian assistance.
The Military High Command has praised the courage and professionalism displayed by the troops, describing the operation as a significant step towards dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
Meanwhile, follow-up clearance operations are ongoing as security forces continue efforts to track down fleeing insurgents and destroy remaining terrorist hideouts across the region.
