Train Kills Dispatch Rider at PWD Lagos

A dispatch rider was killed after being hit by a train at the PWD railway crossing. LASTMA has warned motorcyclists against reckless riding near rail tracks.

A tragic accident occurred on Thursday in the Ikeja area of Lagos, as a dispatch rider lost his life after being struck by an oncoming train while attempting to hastily cross the railway tracks.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the rider, who was reportedly speeding, tried to beat the train in a bid to access the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ikeja. Unfortunately, he was hit by the train and died instantly.

CBI News reports that LASTMA officials, in collaboration with personnel from the Shogunle Police Division, arrived swiftly at the scene to cordon off the area, manage traffic, and ensure public safety. The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) was later on-site to evacuate the remains of the deceased.

In an official statement, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the victim’s family and described the incident as "a distressing reminder of the consequences of impatience and disregard for traffic safety rules, especially at railway level crossings."

Meanwhile, authorities have urged all road users to exercise caution and obey traffic signals, particularly near railway intersections, to prevent similar tragedies.
