Several passengers injured in train collision taken to nearby hospitals...
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a train accident that affected passengers on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor on Monday morning.
The confirmation was given by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, Kayode Opeifa, in a statement issued on Monday.
The incident involved a passenger train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, which was involved in a collision along the rail line.
According to Opeifa, the accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. near Asham Train Station.
He explained that the rear locomotive made contact with the passenger coach directly behind it due to a coupling issue.
CBI News reports that the NRC boss confirmed that several passengers sustained injuries during the incident but were quickly attended to and taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
He also clarified that no fatalities were recorded.
Following the accident, emergency response protocols were immediately activated, and technical teams were deployed to the scene to address the situation.
Opeifa further disclosed that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau is currently at the site to carry out a detailed investigation in line with established safety procedures.
The statement added that the train eventually arrived at Idu Train Station at about 10:39 a.m., approximately 38 minutes behind schedule, after time was taken to remove the affected locomotive and coach.
The NRC assured the public that passenger safety remains its top priority, adding that necessary measures are being taken to ensure the continued safe operation of train services.
