Middle East crisis hikes cost of energy, fuel across the globe...
As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, concerns are mounting among residents over a noticeable surge in food prices. A market survey conducted in Abuja revealed that many citizens are struggling to cope with the rising cost of essential commodities.
While the ongoing tensions in the Middle East have been cited as a contributing factor, traders at Garki Market described the situation as increasingly difficult.
Victor Isaac, a meat seller, lamented the impact of the price hike on his business, noting that sales have dropped sharply compared to previous years. According to him, many customers can no longer afford to buy in the quantities they once did.
He said this has led to reduced patronage and mounting losses for traders.
The situation is not only affecting sellers in the markets, as buyers are also expressing frustration over the rising cost of food items. In Abuja, many residents say the current prices are becoming increasingly difficult to cope with.
Kelvin Momoh attributed the surge in food prices to the unstable cost of petrol, noting that fluctuations in fuel prices have significantly increased transportation costs, which in turn affect the final market prices of goods.
Ofoma Umoru appeared indifferent to the situation, stating that price fluctuations are not unusual and that people may eventually adjust to the current realities.
As the pressure of rising food prices continues to bite in Abuja, both traders and consumers remain hopeful that urgent measures will be taken by the government to stabilise the situation and bring the much-needed relief.
