Spanish La liga: Barca keep pressure on Madrid with home win over Getafe...
Ferran Torres struck twice as Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 win over Getafe on Sunday, keeping the champions just two points behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga title race.
Dani Olmo added the third for Hansi Flick’s side, who dominated at the Johan Cruyff Stadium while awaiting the reopening of Camp Nou.
Despite his midweek brace in the Champions League, Marcus Rashford started on the bench after reportedly arriving late for a team meeting. Flick has previously dropped players for similar offences, including Jules Kounde.
“Rotation is normal because every three or four days we have a match, we need fresh legs on the pitch,” Flick explained.
Torres, stepping in for injured teenager Lamine Yamal, seized his chance, opening the scoring with a sharp finish after Olmo’s backheel. His second was a precise strike into the corner, and he nearly bagged a hat-trick with a shot that rattled the bar.
Rashford replaced Raphinha at half-time and made an impact, cutting inside to set up Olmo for Barcelona’s third. The England international also tested Getafe goalkeeper David Soria with two efforts of his own.
Torres later told DAZN: “We have to focus on our match, not on their match,” after heavy fouling frustrated several Barca players in the first half.
The only sour note for Barcelona was a late injury scare to substitute Fermin Lopez.
Earlier, Atletico Madrid’s poor start to the season continued with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca.
Conor Gallagher put Diego Simeone’s side ahead in the 77th minute, moments after Alexander Sorloth was sent off for a high challenge. But Vedat Muriqi levelled with five minutes left.
Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman denied Julian Alvarez from the penalty spot in the first half, while Atletico captain Koke admitted frustration:
“It’s clear that what matters is scoring goals and they don’t want to go in.”
The result leaves Atletico 12th on the table, nine points adrift of leaders Real Madrid and seven behind Barcelona.
