Big news for African travellers! Togo has officially opened its borders wider by removing visa requirements for citizens of all African countries visiting for short stays — a move many are calling a major win for regional integration and free movement across the continent.
According to cbinews.tv, the Togolese government has announced a visa-free entry policy for nationals of all African countries travelling into Togo for short stays.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement issued by Togo’s Ministry of Security on its official X account. Under the new policy, Africans holding valid national passports can now enter Togo without a visa and stay for up to 30 days.
Officials say the decision is aimed at strengthening African integration, boosting mobility, and creating more opportunities for cooperation across the continent.
“Togo takes a historic step in strengthening African integration,” the ministry stated, adding that the country wants to position itself as “a space of openness, mobility, opportunities, and cooperation at the heart of the African continent.”
However, travellers will still need to complete a travel declaration online at least 24 hours before arrival to obtain a travel slip before entering the country.
The move places Togo among a growing number of African nations easing travel restrictions for fellow Africans in a bid to encourage trade, tourism, and regional partnerships.
Rwanda recently introduced a similar visa-free policy, while Nigeria has also begun implementing a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan citizens.
