Good news or wishful thinking? President Tinubu says the fight against bandits and kidnappers is starting to pay off — but only in some areas.
So, here’s the latest from Aso Rock, according to cbinews.tv — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reckons Nigeria is becoming safer, at least in certain regions.
Speaking on Friday to mark three years of his administration, Tinubu said the military and security agencies have been going hard on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal networks. And it’s showing results… in places.
“Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and criminal networks. While challenges remain, many communities and highways are becoming safer and more economically active,” he said.
He didn’t sugarcoat it though — there are still plenty of trouble spots. But the government’s plan is to keep throwing more money and tech at the problem. We’re talking better intelligence gathering, surveillance, logistics, and getting all the security agencies to actually work together.
“We continue investing in intelligence, surveillance, logistics, technology and inter-agency coordination,” Tinubu added.
The president also promised he’s not taking his foot off the pedal until everywhere feels secure again.
“We are improving the capabilities of our armed forces and reclaiming the authority of the Nigerian state wherever criminality threatens peace and order,” he said. “While we continue to confront the challenges head-on, progress is being made. I want to assure you that this government will not relent until every Nigerian can live, work, travel, and dream in safety.”
