Two soldiers and a policeman lost their lives defending NIPSS Kuru, now President Tinubu says “never again” and has put security chiefs on a 72-hour deadline.
As reported by cbinewstv, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate, permanent security clampdown at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State. This comes after bandits hit the institute’s perimeter, killing two soldiers and a policeman.
Tinubu didn’t mince words, he’s pledged full support for the families of the fallen officers, calling their sacrifice “service to the nation”.
The directive dropped on Friday during an address to participants of Senior Executive Course 48, 2026, at NIPSS. Vice President Kashim Shettima stood in for the President.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, the VP’s spokesperson, the attack has only hardened the Federal Government’s stance. As he put it on Friday, June 19: “The incident has strengthened the resolve of the Federal Government to protect national institutions, support security personnel, and ensure that future attacks do not find the country unprepared.”
Emergency measures are live. Shettima said Tinubu directed the DG of NIPSS to work hand-in-glove with the Armed Forces, Police, and DSS to “fortify the perimeter without delay.”
72-hour deadline. A full security overhaul plan, think surveillance, personnel, access control, emergency systems, must land on the VP’s desk within 72 hours. After that, it’s weekly progress reports until everything’s done. Shettima was clear: “No future attack must find us unprepared.”
Shettima also gave a shout-out to NIPSS boss Professor Ayo Omotayo and security agencies for keeping things from spiralling. “In a moment that tested this Institute to its core, your calm command turned crisis into control. On behalf of the President and the nation, I thank you,” he said.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang is on board too. He’s approved extra measures like a buffer zone and better lighting around NIPSS. The DG has asked for more CCTV and a bigger security presence, and even SEC 48 participants said they’re still focused and reassured despite the scare.
Bottom line from the FG delegation: this attack won’t stop NIPSS from training Nigeria’s next crop of leaders.
