Tinubu names Joseph Tegbe as Power Minister-designate to replace Adelabu.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
CBI News reports that the nomination has been transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions.
The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance.
He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
The partnership also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development.
According to the Presidency, Tegbe has been involved in regulatory and institutional reforms within the power sector, working with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The Presidency said his nomination is expected to boost ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability and attract sustainable investment under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement, signed by Bayo Onanuga, noted that the President expects the minister-designate, upon confirmation, to deploy his expertise to deliver improved outcomes in the sector.
