Tinubu endorses Hamzat as Lagos APC consensus Governorship candidate...
President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the decision of the Governance Advisory Council to adopt Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
CBI News reports that the move signals growing alignment among political stakeholders in Lagos ahead of the next election cycle.
Tinubu gave the endorsement on Wednesday during a meeting with members of the GAC, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other party leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which began around 2:30 p.m., brought together key figures of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
The engagement is widely seen as part of ongoing consultations over Lagos State’s 2027 governorship succession and internal party alignment.
Confirming the development, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Tinubu formally backed Hamzat during the meeting.
“President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” Onanuga stated.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the GAC, Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, alongside other Lagos political stakeholders, further underscoring the significance of the endorsement in shaping the state’s political direction ahead of 2027.
