With just hours to go before Osun voters head to the polls, President Bola Tinubu has sent a strong message to INEC and security agencies: no excuses, the election must be peaceful and credible.
All eyes are on Osun State as the governorship election holds tomorrow, Saturday, 15th August 2026.
President Bola Tinubu has called for a peaceful and transparent process, urging everyone involved to play their part in delivering a credible poll, reports cbinews.tv.
Fifteen candidates are in the race, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Hon. Najeem Salaam.
In a statement released ahead of the election, the President charged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure the process is orderly, transparent, free and fair. He described the Osun poll, being the last off-cycle election before 2027, as a crucial test of INEC’s preparedness for the general elections.
President Tinubu also had a direct message for security chiefs. He said he has instructed the Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security agencies deployed for the election to provide maximum security at polling units and leave no room for troublemakers.
According to him, both electoral officials and voters must be fully protected to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
He further appealed to Osun residents to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility, avoid any act of violence, and assured them of their safety before, during, and after the polls.
“Our elections must be credible, and the outcome of the Osun Governorship election must reflect the will of the people,” the President declared.
