Tinubu tells Citizens to promote unity, peace as fasting begins...
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday extended greetings to Christians and Muslims as Lent and Ramadan commenced on the same day, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, peace and national progress.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Tinubu described the rare coincidence of the two religious observances as a reminder of shared values among people of faith.
“With profound reverence to God Almighty, I greet the Christian and Muslim faithful on the solemn occasions of Lent and Ramadan,” the president said.
He noted that Lent is a period of fasting, abstinence and penitence for Christians, following the example of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion, while Ramadan represents a sacred season of submission, sacrifice and devotion for Muslims, and one of the five pillars of Islam.
Tinubu called on Nigerians to use the period of reflection to promote good neighbourliness, peace, unity and stability, and to pray for the nation’s progress and security.
“Let us live by the good precepts of our faiths and be honourable in our duty to God and fellow humans,” he said.
Tinubu prayed that the lessons and blessings of the seasons would abide with the faithful and the country at large.
