Tinubu and German Chancellor agreed to strengthen Nigeria–Germany ties...
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have agreed to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany, with a focus on security, power and railway development.
During a telephone conversation on Wednesday afternoon, both leaders also expressed readiness to collaborate in the areas of creative arts and skill development.
According to a statement issued Wednesday night by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the discussion covered the Presidential Power Initiative.
President Tinubu noted that Nigeria would require support, particularly in power transmission.
Chancellor Merz pledged that Siemens would be prepared to assist, while Deutsche Bank would be willing to finance the project.
CBI News reports that the two leaders also raised concerns over insecurity in the Sahel region.
Tinubu called for the supply of used helicopters to aid intelligence reconnaissance operations.
“The Sahel corridor is bad and needs our support. Intelligence support reconnaissance is needed,” the Nigerian leader said.
Diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Germany have spanned about 65 years.
Chancellor Merz stated that Germany is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Nigeria’s new ambassador.
He also highlighted the importance of the arts and advocated for the establishment of the Great Museum of African Arts.
CBI News understands that the telephone conversation began at 2:01 pm and concluded around 2:10 pm.
