Tinubu urges peace, strengthens ties with Gulf nations...
President Bola Tinubu has declared Nigeria’s support for countries in the Gulf region amid rising tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
CBI News reports that the President made this known in Abuja on Thursday during a formal ceremony where he received letters of credence from several foreign diplomats.
Countries represented at the event included Qatar and Saudi Arabia, alongside envoys from Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and Republic of the Congo.
Tinubu assured the visiting diplomats that Nigeria stands with nations in the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan.
He commended their calm handling of the situation and stressed the need for peace across the region.
The President described the diplomatic engagement as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relations with other nations, urging the envoys to deepen partnerships that would deliver mutual benefits.
He also highlighted his administration’s economic direction, noting ongoing efforts to position Nigeria as an attractive destination for investors.
Tinubu pointed to opportunities in infrastructure, economic expansion, and diaspora engagement, inviting the diplomats to explore these sectors.
On regional issues, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the Economic Community of West African States, particularly in sustaining democratic governance, enhancing trade among member states, and addressing instability in the Sahel.
The President further emphasised that global challenges such as climate change, energy concerns, terrorism, and inequitable financial systems require collective international action.
He said Nigeria remains ready to collaborate with other countries, both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms, to promote global peace, security, and fairness.
