President Tinubu has named Adedayo Laniyi as the new Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, with a fresh governing council also unveiled to drive women empowerment initiatives nationwide.
According to cbinews.tv, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adedayo Laniyi as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development for an initial four-year term.
The appointment, which officially takes effect from April 18, 2026, was communicated through a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.
A statement released by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, explained that the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.
The statement also confirmed that President Tinubu approved the constitution of the Centre’s Governing Council, with Princess Joan Jummai Idonije named as Chairman.
Other members of the council include Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.
President Tinubu congratulated the newly appointed DG and council members, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen the Centre’s mission of promoting women empowerment, gender equality, and socio-economic development across Nigeria.
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development remains a key national institution focused on research, training, and advocacy for women-related programmes and policies.
