Nigeria’s education sector is set for a fresh wave of digital transformation as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appoints one of the country’s youngest professors to lead JAMB.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), taking over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure ends on 31 July 2026.
As reported by cbinews.tv, Professor Aina is widely regarded as a brilliant academic and technology expert with deep experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.
Interestingly, the 39-year-old professor, who turns 40 in July, will become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
Professor Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the UK. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service days, where he first gained hands-on experience in admissions and examination processes.
Over the years, he has built a strong reputation at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation, advising both federal and state governments on digital transition and operational reforms.
At just 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering, and now he is stepping into one of the country’s most important education leadership roles.
Professor Aina has also worked closely with examination bodies such as NECO, NABTEB, and several State Ministries of Education, helping to improve ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital processes.
He is a member of several professional organisations, including COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu is said to be counting on Professor Aina’s wealth of experience and innovative mindset to build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede and further modernise JAMB’s operations.
